The Food and its Uses
A food is something that provides nutrients. We need It to survive.
It is essential for our body to develop, replace and repair itself.
It provides us energy to work and play.
It protects us from diseases and help to recover fast from illness.
It helps us to grow and makes us healthy.
To do any work, we need energy. We get energy by eating our meal.
Kinds of Food
Some food items help us to grow. We should eat Pulses, milk, beans, eggs, meat and fish to grow.
Some food items help to give us energy. We should eat Chapatti, rice, butter, bread and sugar to get energy.
Some food items protect us and help us to fight against diseases. We should eat fruits and vegetables to protect ourselves.
A vegetarian is someone who doesn’t eat meat. Vegetarians abstain from eating animals. They eat things which are obtained from plants. They eat pulses, bread, rice, fruits, vegetables etc.
Vegans are those who also abstain from eating animal products like dairy products and eggs. There are also vegetarians who do eat fish, but not the other animals.
Some people eat only those things which are obtained from animals. They are called non-vegetarians. They eat eggs, chicken, fish etc.
Junk foods are processed foods consisting of high calories. It has few of the nutrients your body needs, and a lot of fat, sugar and salt. Nowadays, children eat chips, cakes, pizzas, chocolates, noodles, etc. Such food items are not very nutritious. These are bad for your health and also bad for developing brain health.
Meals of the Day
We have three meals in a day. We take them at fixed times in a day.
1. Breakfast 2. Lunch 3. Dinner
The first meal of the day is breakfast. Generally, we take it at 8 o’ clock in the morning. A healthy breakfast should consist of oatmeal, porridge, fruits, nuts, juice, milk etc.
The second meal of the day is lunch. Generally, we take it at 1 o’ clock in the afternoon. We eat pulses, rice, chapattis, vegetables, salad etc. in lunch.
The last meal of the day is called dinner. Generally, we take it at 8 o’ clock at night. We eat chapattis, pudding, fruits, vegetables etc. in dinner.
Water is also a very important part of our meal. We should drink plenty of water to stay fit and healthy. Drinking water is great for your overall health.
