Cost of Living In Jakarta, Indonesia

Here is the Breakup of Basic Cost of Living in Jakarta Indonesia

Home Rental

  • In Home Rental You have two choices, either you can stay in private house or apartment, or you can stay in shared accommodation. Here is quick cost breakup of both the types.
  • Apartment or Individual Houses
    • 1 BHK House Rent: 6-7 Million IDR around South Jakarta or Central Jakarta
    • 2 BHK House Rent is 7-9 Million IDR around South Jakarta or Centra Jakarta
    • Here are some of the website which you can use to search for Houses and Apartments.
  • Staying in Shared Apartment
Staying in a shared House or Apartment will typically cost you between 1.5 Million IDR to 3 Million IDR. These shared accommodations are called Kost and the same can be searched online from above mentioned websites. In a shared accommodation you typically get a Private room with an AC and TV, However kitchen and bathroom may be shared or Private depending on how much the rental is. The more the rental is, the more private facilities you will get.

Transportation

We can break down transportation in two parts as well, Public Transport and Private Transport. So Let’s talk about Public Transport in Indonesia.

Public Transport in Indonesia

  • Blue Bird Taxi
  • Gojek (Use Gojek Application which is similar to Ola or Uber)
  • Grab (Use Grab Application which is similar to Ola or Uber)

Private Transport in Indonesia

  • Blue Bird Taxi
  • Gojek (Use Gojek Application which is similar to Ola or Uber)
  • Grab (Use Grab Application which is similar to Ola or Uber)
  • Groceries
  • There are many Indian Groceries stores available, which you can use to compare the price. Typically for Indian goods prices will be approx. 4 times higher than back in India.

Getting Driving License in Jakarta

Since I do not have an International Driving License so the First Step for me was to getting an Indonesian Driving License. In many countries, you can drive by using just Indian Driving License for first few months, but that’s not the case here in Indonesia.
So I would recommend, If you are planning a Road Trip in Indonesia, then please get your International Driving License Made before travelling. Many people will recommend you that you can drive without the need of a driving license in Indonesia especially when you in Bali but I will seriously not recommend that. As you are carrying a serious risk by not abiding by the law of the land.

Jakarta To Bali – Day 1

So Jakarta to Bali travel which is around 1400 KM was divided into two parts. Day-1 was all about reaching from Jakarta to Surabaya which is around 750 KM. We started from Jakarta quite early at almost around 4:00 AM on Saturday. This ensured that we don’t get stuck in day time traffic of Jakarta. Here are the things you should take care before start of the Trip:
1. Make sure you get your car in ready to drive condition for a long Trip of 1500+ KM
2. Get car’s Petrol Tank full. It will save you time to refuel.
3. Buy a card which can be used to make a payment for Toll and Other parking charges, This card can be bought at any of the convenient stores such as Indomart or Alfamart etc.
4. Take a sound sleep before starting the Trip, as it is going to be a long drive, so it is very important that you rest well before starting the trip.
5. Buy adequate water and snacks so you don’t have to stop often to buy these things. This will save you a lot of your time.
6. If you are driving the car, make sure you are carrying International driving license or you have Indonesian Driving License. In my case I did not have an International driving license, so I got Indonesian driving license made before my travel.
7. Carry car papers such as STNK always with you as this will be required whenever any police check happens.
8. Plan for Rest areas at which you want to stop. Try to divide the complete 750 KM journey in 4 to 5 small parts which means that you can take a break at every 125 to 150 KM. This will ensure you stay refreshed.
9. Do not travel at night, as you can see in the video, most of the places at highway do not have lamps. So it will be pretty dark at night.
10. Book your hotel in Surabaya near Surabaya toll. This will make sure you can get out of Surabaya next day as soon as possible. If you are taking a hotel in the city center of Surabaya than it will be consuming more time and effort to drive in and out of city center.
11. Last but not the least, Keep emergency kit and some basic medicines ready with you. If you have motion sickness, than take the medicine 30 minutes to an hour before the travel or as advised by the doctor.

If you have any other query then do write to me. Give it a thumbs up if you liked the video.

Jakarta To Bali Day 2

So Jakarta To Bali Trip Day 2 is all about reaching from Surabaya to Bali. We started from Surabaya from early morning, almost around 00:04 AM. By the sunrise we had already crossed most of the parts where traffic is expected. It took us 5 hours to reach to Banyuwangi Harbor. But there we got the shock of the trip, that entry is not allowed if we don’t have Covid 19 Test Reports. Luckily there was a gentleman who helped us to find the nearest hospital where Covid 19 Rapid test can be done. Since it was Sunday, So most of the clinics or hospitals were closed, but he was aware of the one which remains open on Sunday. Because of him we were able to get Covid 19 test done and get the results verified, results verification was one of the mandatory checks during new normal. Let’s see the rest in the video

Price for Ferry with car package is 180,000 IDR which is equivalent to approximately 900 Rs. Travel time in Ferry is only about 30 Minutes.
